(Boston, Massachusetts--April 14, 2009) EditShare®, the technology leader in cross platform collaborative editing and shared media storage systems, announced that they have qualified the ON-AIR Systems for playout integration with the EditShare Storage and XStream Series.
EditShare Storage and XStream Series shared storage solutions are custom engineered to meet the demands of fast-paced, high-volume, news, sports, and programs productions. Both EditShare shared storage solutions offer the highly popular Avid and Apple project sharing, optimizing media sharing and story production for large broadcast editing workgroups. The built-in ESA technology (Extreme Scalable Architecture) means that broadcasters can easily scale their storage needs with ease; adding multiple EditShares on the network with up to 128 drives per system. The new integration with ON-AIR systems automates file migration from EditShare production storage to the ON-AIR playout video server. The seamless automation is triggered from the ON-AIR playout controls and provides a much faster "to air" workflow for broadcasters.
"It is important for us to provide EditShare Storage Series and XStream users with options for highly popular playout servers such as ON-AIR systems," comments Andy Liebman, CEO and founder, EditShare. "We designed the EditShare systems with a dynamic architecture that leverages modern engineering principles enabling easy integration with 3rd-party solutions. The exchange of content is seamless and the performance is outstanding."
"Combining the speed, flexibility and quality of the EditShare ingest, storage and file management capabilities, with the unique "Channel in a Box" playout of ON-AIR Systems gives customers an extremely cost effective, simple to use, yet powerful workflow for their broadcast operations. This can be commissioned quickly and efficiently and is backed by two companies with a dedication to support and a willingness to work collaboratively for real world customer solutions." Mark Errington, CEO, ON-AIR Systems.
About ON-AIR Solutions OAS has been developing and implementing channel automated playout solutions for over 10 years. The experienced software development team based in Zagreb, Croatia, are now on the fourth generation of OAS software. This software enables a full digital workflow for single or multiple channels, is modular in design and can be implemented in simple or complex workflows.
OAS believes it is truly the only company that can deliver a fully self contained channel playout solution in a single workstation, that is capable of scheduling and playing out video, audio, sub-titles, teletext, multi layered graphics, DVE moves and effects, transitions, VBI, WSS, and information feeds on events that can also include triggers for third party devices using UDP, HTTP, GPI, or VBI.
After files are declared as available for playout, OAS software will automatically copy and delete them as and when they are required on the playout systems. Live feeds and tape based events can also be scheduled and controlled if required, making the playKast system a fully functional master control system replacing the need for mixers, switchers, CG, Logo generators, WSS, DVE and other broadcast equipment.
EditShare Complete Collaboration The Storage and XStream Series are part of the EditShare Complete Collaboration line of products which provide shared media and collaborative workflows – from ingest through production to archive. In addition to the Storage Series and XStream Series, the Complete Collaboration line includes EditShare FLOW and EditShare Ark.
Designed for the industry's leading editing and compositing products from Adobe, Apple, Assimilate, Autodesk, Avid, Digidesign, Digital Vision, and Sony, EditShare storage servers, including the ultra-performance XStream series, allow all connected workstations to capture, access and share in real time a common pool of media files. Regardless of application or platform, source material, work in progress and finished packages are shared and instantly available to all users on the EditShare network. EditShare is also the only solution that provides full Project Sharing among both Apple and Avid editing workgroups. EditShare servers connect via Gigabit or 10 Gigabit ethernet.
FLOW Ingest captures up to four channels of media and associated metadata, storing each channel in up to three formats simultaneously and outputting a proxy for fast retrieval. No background transcoding is required and files are available immediately for editing. EditShare's unique Universal Media File technology allows ingested media to be shared and used by editors working on both Avid and Apple editing applications.
FLOW Browse simplifies media cataloging, search and retrieval within EditShare shared storage environments. Users can quickly locate media among hundreds of thousands of clips on the EditShare media spaces. From FLOW Browse, users can update metadata, log clips, and drag and drop media to Avid and FCP bins.
FLOW Ingest and Browse are fully integrated with EditShare's Storage Series as well as the ultra-performance XStream Series for high-volume, high-demand environments.
EditShare Ark provides a full range of very cost effective, disk-based solutions for backup, mirroring and archiving needs. While Ark systems are not generally usable for realtime editing, in a crisis situation where something has happened to a facility's main EditShare storage, Ark Disk Based Storage can be "activated" and used to complete mission critical work while the primary storage is repaired.
