(Louisville, Colorado--April 6, 2010) Front Porch Digital, the global leader in solutions for migrating, managing, and monetizing media content, today announced that Technicolor (Euronext Paris 18453; NYSE: TCH) has purchased a Front Porch Digital SAMMA Robot™ V.4 for its library services initiative.
Technicolor's media management and distribution expertise, combined with Front Porch Digital's solution for accelerated, high-volume migration of aging video libraries to secure and accessible digital files, create an ideal solution for a wide range of content owners and libraries.
Technicolor offers a streamlined, single-source supply chain of services where content is converted to digital files, then managed and kept secure and accessible 24/7/365 for its customers. Digitizing the content not only rescues it from videotape's inevitable deterioration, it also enables Technicolor to store and make the content readily available for repurposing on both new and traditional distribution platforms.
"Front Porch Digital's SAMMA Robot is fundamental to our library services initiative," said Chuck Parker, president of Technicolor's Digital Content Delivery business. "We worked hard to find the best partner, and are pleased to be working with Front Porch Digital. While we have invested a great deal of our own R&D in this project and in other parts of the media management value chain, when it comes to digitizing content, Front Porch Digital has the proven technology that fulfilled a component of the overall workflow."
"Technicolor is a trusted name in the media industry and the company is among the first to recognize not only the business benefits but also the importance of preserving invaluable media content," said Mike Knaisch, president and CEO of Front Porch Digital. "With its heritage and expertise, Technicolor is positioned to deliver top-quality library services to its customers and we are glad to be contributing a key technology component."
Front Porch Digital's SAMMA Robot is an automated videotape-based robotic system that performs real-time migration of up to 1,000 hours of content per week. The system, which can operate unattended around the clock, simultaneously ingests and encodes content stored on either U-Matic or Betacam tapes into multiple digital formats. The digitized recordings include not only the content itself but also metadata describing the content's condition. The SAMMA Robot V.4 has been enhanced to accommodate automatic handling of mixed-size (large/small) and mixed-standard (PAL/NTSC) videotape cassettes and associate migration profiles on an individual or group videotape basis during the preparation process, and include an updated user interface with additional robotic system status messaging and support for DVCam and DVCPro tape formats.
With more than 95 years of experience in entertainment innovation, Technicolor serves an international base of entertainment, software, and gaming customers. The company is a leading provider of production, postproduction, and distribution services to content creators and distributors. Technicolor is one of the world's largest film processors, the largest independent manufacturer and distributor of DVDs (including Blu-ray Disc), and a leading global supplier of set-top boxes and gateways. The company also operates an Intellectual Property and Licensing business unit. More information is available at http://www.technicolor.com
