(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania--May 25, 2010) BIGSMACKtv, the full service creative agency specializing in network branding and promotion, has added two new creative talents -- Sr. Art Director Jason Salo and Sr. Visual Effects Director Dave Zeevalk. Salo and Zeevalk join a staff led by Creative Director Andy Hann and Executive Producers Heidi Frederick Erney and Kelly Dials. BIGSMACKtv also represents directors Manuel Miranda, Jeffrey Phillips, Scott Whitham.
''Jason and Dave are two of the industry’s most respected visual effects artists,'' Hann said. ''As our clients continue to challenge us to deliver effective concepts and flawless execution, we felt it was crucial we reload our creative arsenal. Jason and David definitely fit the bill, and since both are not new to Philly we don’t have to waste time showing them where to get the best cheese steaks, where the Liberty Bell is or how to hate all other sports teams.''
Originally from Cleveland, Salo joins BIGSMACK following two years as Art Director at the New York-based company UVPhactory. Prior to that he was an Art Director for four years at Transistor Studios, New York. During that time he worked on projects for such brands as Nike, Miller Beer, BMW, Adidas and Glaxo SmithKline, as well as an array of broadcast clients including Fuel, BET, Oxygen and FOX.
''BIGSMACK is different from other design studios because of their amazing depth of resources, ranging from in-house telecine to a fully decked recording studio,'' Salo says. ''BIGSMACK also offered me the opportunity to work at a strong creative shop beyond the typical hubs of New York and Los Angeles. Having lived and worked on both coasts, the chance to live and work in a city like Philly and at a young creative studio like BIGSMACK affords the best of both my professional and personal life.''
Southern New Jersey native Dave Zeevalk comes to BIGSMACK following a stint at the Los Angeles visual effects house LookFX where he worked as Lead CG Artist on the TV shows as ABC’s Lost and Fox’s Bones. Prior to that he worked at Engine Room, Hollywood; Superfad, Culver City, CA; and Giant Steps, Venice, CA. He began his career at Zoic Studios, Culver City, CA where he worked as 3D Animator/Visual Effects Artists on such shows as CSI Miami, CSI Las Vegas, True Blood, Fringe and Flash Forward. Zeevalk also taught 3D animation at Gnomon School of Visual Arts, Hollywood, CA.
Recognition of his talents has been abundant. His work on the show Fringe resulted in a 2009 Emmy Nomination and a VES win for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program. This year he was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program and Outstanding Created Environment for his work on Flash Forward.
“BIGSMACK has a team of awesome designers, animators and 3D artists who are extremely ambitious in their sense of design and movement and I’m proud to be a part of what they’re building here,” Zeevalk said. “Hopefully my 3D and compositing experience will open doors to more technically challenging and complex CG work, which is in high demand in all areas of the entertainment industry.”
