(December 7, 2010) Unlimi-Tech Software, leading developer of accelerated and managed file transfer solutions, is pleased to announce MediaSilo’s integration of the FileCatalyst file transfer platform within the MediaSilo web-based workflow solution.

MediaSilo is the online toolset for video professionals. Created by video pros, the platform is used by thousands of creatives around the globe to manage digital assets and collaborate with others. MediaSilo offers robust features and benefits such as video content management, web-based collaboration, cloud storage, a human-powered transcripts and more.

MediaSilo has long provided clients point-to-point transfer of files up to 4GB in size. While some workflows never reach this limitation, several clients asked for the ability to share larger files for dailies and rough cuts. Many lacked the resources to set up and manage a dedicated system and simply wanted to avoid that hassle. Those clients looked to MediaSilo for a solution. MediaSilo is constantly evolving based on client input, and began looking into file transfer systems. FileCatalyst technology emerged as the perfect fit.

“FileCatalyst is known for its good reputation and outstanding technology,” says Kai Pradel, Founder and CTO of MediaSilo. “By integrating FileCatalyst into the MediaSilo platform, our client base can now take advantage of the file transfer system without the upfront investment, in a secure and cost-effective manner.”

In November, MediaSilo launched ExpressBox, a module within the core application, that removes file size limitations and allows for transfers of up to 250GB per file, anywhere in the world. Files are uploaded to the server using FileCatalyst’s UDP-based transfer technology, and a select list of recipients is notified via an email sent by the MediaSilo system. The recipient clicks a link in the email, and FileCatalyst technology once again powers the file transfer. On both upload and download, FileCatalyst ensures maximum speed, reliability, and security.

“Efficiently delivering very large files via standard protocols like FTP can be a nightmare,” says Chris Bailey, CEO of Unlimi-Tech Software. “The reliability features of TCP don’t work well on global networks, and organizations with high-bandwidth links will never reach full speed. We built FileCatalyst specifically to solve these sorts of problems.”

While its acceleration technology is available within its own family of products, FileCatalyst is quickly becoming known as the preferred integration partner for fast file transfer.
“No other company offers the integration options we do,” says Chris Bailey, “especially when it comes to web applications. MediaSilo had already built a full web-based workflow solution, and just needed to solve the problem of large file transfer. Not a problem, using our applets and JavaScript API.”

Unlimi-Tech also prides itself on the high level of personalized expert support provided during and after integration work.

“It couldn’t have been easier,” says Kai Pradel. “Not only in terms of the technology itself, but because of the time and attention afforded us by the Unlimi-Tech engineering team.”
