: Washington Redskins Upgrade To HD At FedExField With Fujinon HA And XA Series LensesLast Updated: January 4, 2011 3:57 pm GMT
(Wayne, New Jersey--January 4, 2011) Home to the NFL’s Washington Redskins, FedExField in Prince George’s County, Md., received a comprehensive upgrade to high definition production for the 2010-2011 football season. As part of the upgrade, the arena features three new Sony HSC300K cameras paired with Fujinon lenses: the HA23X7.6BERM Premier Series HD ENG-style telephoto, XA50X9.5BESM HD box-style telephoto with 2X extender, and XA76X9.3BESM HD telephoto.
Cameras are placed at various points around the venue to provide a total stadium experience. The new system enables the stadium’s control room to originate HD programming and transmit the signals to new HD LED video displays and stadium-wide video distribution systems. In addition to improving video for the fans, the HD video is also archived for promos and highlight reels.
The video control room and infrastructure were upgraded by Communications Engineering, Inc. (CEI). Based in Newington, Va., CEI has provided systems integration and service for the Redskins for many years, and handles game-day operations for the broadcast and audio-video systems at FedExField.
“An investment in HD infrastructure and displays is only worthwhile if the content on screen is as dazzling as the technology,” said David P. Donovan, the Redskins Chief Operating Officer. “We chose these Fujinon lenses to be the gateway to that content because of their superb quality and reliability. Shooting HD video in an outdoor stadium environment can be very challenging, but we know these Fujinon lenses will deliver excellent images for day and night games in whatever weather we encounter.”
The Fujinon XA76x9.3BESM telephoto HD lens is specifically designed for large venues and sporting events. The zoom and focus can be preset and memorized in advance at a selected position. One touch of the switch during shooting will instantly return to the memorized position for time saving production. The lens also offers full remote control and diagnostics via RS-232, and a 13-bit encoder output is standard for virtual applications.
