(Louisville, Colorado--February 17, 2011) Front Porch Digital, the global leader in solutions that migrate, manage, and market media content, today announced that CBC Television has implemented the company's DIVArchive® content storage management solution (CSM) to manage archiving and retrieval of SD and HD news, arts, and entertainment programming produced in-house.
Tightly integrated with one of the largest Avid® Interplay® news and post-production environments in the world, the DIVArchive system provides an infinitely scalable file-based storage and preservation repository serving the needs of the CBC now and into the future.
"As a pioneer in Canadian broadcasting and an early adopter of file-based devices, CBC has made another great technological leap forward with the implementation of a central content storage repository using our DIVArchive solution," said Brian Campanotti, Front Porch Digital's chief technology officer. "Because DIVArchive interfaces with CBC's digital workflow systems, the storage of digital content is seamlessly managed throughout the entire production process. Designed modularly for easy expansion, DIVArchive will remain a key component to support CBC's plans for the future as well reaching far outside of its post and news environments."
DIVArchive is an integrated hardware and software solution that supports infinitely scalable storage, content preservation, management, retrieval, and partial retrieval of media content by enabling interoperability between digital media storage devices, video servers, editing systems, and digital media workflow applications including broadcast automation, media asset management, and traffic systems.
At the CBC, DIVArchive is integrated with a very large Avid ISIS® media storage infrastructure as well as Avid Interplay production management systems to manage close to 1PB of expandable data tape archive capacity, which represents a current capacity of more than 15,000 hours of DNxHD post-production content or more than 70,000 of IMX30 news content.
Besides supporting preservation of irreplaceable content, the DIVArchive solution provides efficient access to it. Working at their desktops from the familiar Avid interface, CBC producers, editors, and journalists are able to browse or restore archived clips for identification or manipulation. Previously, CBC staff had to manually retrieve videotapes as needed from a vault, which was a laborious, time-intensive process that also increased the risk of content being damaged or lost.
CBC/Radio-Canada is Canada's national public broadcaster and one of its largest cultural institutions. The Corporation is a leader in reaching Canadians on new platforms and delivers a comprehensive range of radio, television, Internet, and satellite-based services. Deeply rooted in the regions, CBC/Radio-Canada is the only domestic broadcaster to offer diverse regional and cultural perspectives in English, French, and eight Aboriginal languages, plus seven languages for international audiences. In 2011, CBC/Radio-Canada is celebrating 75 years of serving Canadians and being at the center of the democratic, social, and cultural life of Canada.
