(Las Vegas, NV--April 7, 2011) Las Vegas, NV, USA – April 7, 2011– Softron Media Services® today announced support today for TFT's line of EAS – Emergency Broadcast System – encoders. Softron's support takes the form of a plug-in called EASController that works in conjunction with Softron's OnTheAir Node and OnTheAir Live or OnTheAir Manager applications along with Softron's OnTheAir CG and video cards from Blackmagic Design to display and play out an EAS message.
When the TFT encoder receives an alert (a text message and optionally an audio message), it triggers Softron’s EASController .It then mutes the audio playout out from any number of OnTheAir Nodes and plays the audio Alarm message instead. It simultaneously takes control of OnTheAir CG to generate a ticker with the text message it received from the encoder. This ticker is overlaid onto the video that is played out from OnTheAir Node. When the encoder has finished playing the audio message, it asks Softron's EASController to stop the message and revert to a normal playout. The OnTheAir CG ticker then stops and the audio of the OnTheAir Node(s) is unmuted. Every operation and message are logged in the log files and on-screen.
"TFT is proud to join Softron in the release of its EAS plug-in for OnTheAirNode. Softron, with this addition, will be able to address customer requirements for EAS for many years to come,” said Darryl Parker of TFT.
“The architecture of our OnTheAir Suite of products is such that adding additional features capabilities is a breeze,” said Daniel Tapie, CTO of Softron Media Services. “One of the first things that US customers asked for was a way to handle EAS. So we are glad to provide these capabilities. And glad that we were able to partner with TFT to implement EAS functionality in such a short period of time. Softron, by demonstrating our commitment to professional broadcasters with applications with as our multi-channel client server applications and EASController, is dedicated to providing customers in the US with comprehensive tools.”
TFT has been manufacturing equipment for the professional broadcast industry since 1970. The first product was a television aural modulation monitor. The company expanded with similar monitors for radio and developed a BTSC monitor in 1985. With its core expertise in phase-lock-loop design, TFT started a line of radio STL equipment that continues to this day with both analog and digital versions. When the Emergency Broadcast System replaced CONELRAD in the 1960s, TFT built encoders and decoders and was instrumental in the replacement of that system with the current EAS system in 1995.
TFT has products in more than 45 countries throughout the world and counts the world's largest broadcasters among its clients.
