(San Diego, California--November 7, 2011) Sorenson Media today announced that it was named “Best Internet Company” at TechAmerica San Diego’s 18th Annual High Tech Awards, held Oct. 28, 2011. Hosted by TechAmerica, the nation’s leading technology industry trade association, the event celebrated the achievements of technology companies in the greater San Diego area and was attended by over 500 professionals.
Sorenson Media CEO Peter Csathy also participated earlier this year in the nationally recognized TechAmerica Foundation CLOUD2 Commission, which unveiled a highly anticipated cloud computing roadmap to President Obama and his Administration. The company was the only video workflow solutions provider invited to participate on the CLOUD2 commission.
“The recognition we’ve received from TechAmerica is a great honor for us,” said Csathy. “The San Diego area is quietly one of the nation’s most dynamic, and it is a significant accomplishment to be named among the best of the best here. This award, as well as our status as the only company of its kind chosen to join the CLOUD2 commission, reflects our strong, unique reputation both locally and nationally.”
Last week, Sorenson Media also was named one of three finalists for a record five Readers’ Choice Awards from Streaming Media magazine: Best Online Video Technology Company; Best Cloud Encoding/Transcoding Service, for Squeeze Cloud; Best Encoding Software under $1,000, for Sorenson Squeeze; Best Encoding Software over $1,000, for Squeeze Server; and Best Online Video Platform, for Sorenson 360. The winners in all categories will be announced at Streaming Media West in Los Angeles on Nov. 9, 2011.
Additionally, Sorenson Media received the prestigious 2011 Streaming Media Europe Readers’ Choice Award for Best Transcoding Solution last month in London, marking its second win in the two years the European awards have been given. The Europe Readers’ Choice Award reinforces the international market prominence of the Sorenson Media brand.
Sorenson Media has long been at the forefront of innovation and the mainstreaming of quality online video, having first developed the technology that powered video in Apple QuickTime, Macromedia (now Adobe) Flash and YouTube. The company now offers a comprehensive software suite for video professionals and enterprises, including its gold standard Sorenson Squeeze encoding and transcoding software, the high-volume Squeeze Server (in both on-premise and cloud editions) and the Sorenson 360 online video platform.
Sorenson Media’s products and solutions are ubiquitous in many of the world's most influential companies and organizations. The company counts more than half of the top 30 broadcast groups in the United States and 70 of the Fortune 100 among its customers—including many of the biggest names in media and broadcasting, such as NBC Universal, Apple, Sprint, Disney, HBO, RCA and Warner Brothers.
“Our commitment to delivering products that can meet the burgeoning video needs of companies and organizations of all types of sizes has enabled us to solidify our position as a leader in the video solutions market,” said Csathy. “Sorenson Media is committed to lead the way in innovation in the increasingly multi-screen world, especially as video workflows move to the Cloud.”
