(Valley Cottage, New York--March 28, 2012) When Bristlecone Media partners Jonah Matthewson and Ryan Christensen gear up for a documentary shoot focusing on wild land conservation, they need their field equipment of a Canon D5 Mark II and a Sony XLR, to be safe, portable and easy to access. “That’s why we use Petrol Bags’ Black Deca DigiSuite DSLR case, Matthewson says. “They stand out because they are versatile and durable.

“The bags elegantly suit almost any situation from a rock-climbing shoot in the granite crags to a studio interview in the city. Regardless of where a shoot might occur, I can always rest assured the fittings, straps, zippers, etc will not fail and that the contents will be completely protected.”
Matthewson recently did a wildlife video of one of the volcanic islands of Mono Lake. To get there, he had to take a small canoe. “It required we be light and compact with a minimum of gear,” he explains. “The winds were high and the water was rough, making the two-mile canoe trip across open water very wet and very sketchy. Once on the island, the opportunities to shoot the birds we were after came unexpectedly and required quick set-up and break down.
“I dragged the camera bag through and tossed it around a variety of brutal terrain that day: sharp volcanic rock, fine blowing sand and soggy mires. Aside from being a little dirty and scuffed, the integrity of the bag was not compromised a bit and the contents were absolutely protected. We got our shots that day and on the sunset paddle back I used the camera bag as a seat in the canoe. And, I have to admit, it was pretty comfortable!”
Manufactured by Petrol Bags, a part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, the Black Deca DigiSuite is a semi-hard suitcase-style carrier. It features a central compartment contoured to comfortably fit up to 2 DSLR cameras with lens attached. Detachable internal dividers help secure contents and create pockets to store a mattebox, camera plate, follow focus, camera light, viewfinder, cables and more.
Bristlecone Media’s conservation documentaries showcase the relevant political, scientific and cultural stories that unfold in any given area. Their current work is on a short film about land trusts and the huge role they play in the effort to protect land across the country. These projects are geared for exhibition at film festivals, interpretive center theaters, web cast and local television or network broadcasts.
