(Burbank, California--April 5, 2012) Archion Technologies
’ EditStor ES™ shared storage system will be featured as the centerpiece of a complete “Capture to Content” solution at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB 2012) in the LSI Corporation booth (#SL12510) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV, April 16-19. Known for delivering leading shared storage systems for digital video professionals, Archion will be demonstrating how efficiently media can be ingested, shared, edited and stored by post production facilities of all sizes.
Editors and media professionals collaborating on projects are constantly challenged by the inefficiencies and loss of productivity using just local storage. EditStor ES provides highly affordable shared storage, with many advanced features such as Avid project sharing, that integrates perfectly with the leading tools in today’s post production workflows. Whether working with editing systems like Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier or high-powered finishing and encoding systems, EditStor ES delivers the performance and functionality to ensure the best results.
“Never before has a complete shared storage system with advanced features like Avid project sharing been available at such an affordable price,” said James Tucci, Chief Technology Officer of Archion. “Much more than just storing, creating and sharing, EditStor ES facilitates the flow, conversion and management of media within the production workflow by offering the richest media management feature set available. We believe ‘Capture to Content’ at this year’s NAB showcases EditStor ES’s powerful combination of innovative, cutting-edge features and high performance.”
“We’re excited to be collaborating with an industry leader in digital video production like Archion to provide essential enabling technology for their complete ‘Capture to Content’ solution,” said Brent Blanchard, Director of Worldwide Channel Sales and Marketing, LSI Corporation. “By combining Archion’s hardware and software with LSI MegaRAID® 6Gb/s hardware RAID controller technology, EditStor ES delivers a cost-effective solution for dramatically accelerating digital media workflows.”
A completely self-contained networked storage system, EditStor ES includes several key features, such as Avid project sharing and on-the-fly volume expansion, that are designed to significantly enhance media workflow management in post production facilities and creative agencies as well as in enterprises, schools and houses of worship.
In Los Angeles, for example, Modern VideoFilm, one of the industry’s leading post production houses, continues to push the technology envelope at its state-of-the-art facilities with an 80 Terabyte EditStor ES system.
“For nearly 30 years, we have focused on providing the best quality, service and environment for film and television work, from Avatar to Modern Family, to name just a couple,” said Bill Watt, Executive Vice President of Operations at Modern VideoFilm. “As part of that commitment, we evaluate our workflow very carefully. EditStor ES outperformed competitive solutions, offered more features and required a significantly smaller investment in time and money.”
Making Media Sharing Easy and Affordable
EditStor ES makes media sharing easy and affordable for creative professionals that work with Final Cut Studio®, Avid Media Composer®, Adobe CS5®, Sony Vegas® and other popular media creation tools. EditStor ES easily facilitates the flow, conversion and management of media within the production workflow by offering the richest media management feature set available -- and at a price that is very affordable, less than half the cost of competitive solutions.
EditStor ES is loaded with rich media management tools, such as volume expansion, which enables users to create shared volumes of any size and expand volumes on the fly. Volume expansion is all managed through a web-based administrator interface that doesn’t affect workflow. Another innovative feature, project sharing, extends to projects that use the most popular editing tools. Avid project sharing, for example, will be transparent to the Avid Media Composer system and doesn’t affect the Avid workflow. Project sharing for Final Cut Studio will also be available.
The rich media management feature set of EditStor ES has all of the automation tools of an enterprise storage server, including storage pools, volume replication and snapshot, data replication and volume manager as well as support for tape back systems and virtual tape volumes created in the system. To deliver maximum connectivity to the workstations that drive workflow, EditStor ES supports user and group management, user security and access as well as industry standard IT protocols.
EditStor ES comes standard with hardware RAID protection and four ports of 1 GigE, which can either be directly connected to four clients or to a standard Ethernet switch. These four ports provide up to 400 Megabytes (MB)/second bandwidth, and the addition of an optional second four-port GigE card or a dual or quad 10Gb Ethernet card significantly increases bandwidth up to 800 MB/second and 1000 MB/second, respectively. With the hot pluggable expansion chassis, throughput and latency are significantly improved.
With these throughput figures, EditStor ES easily supports compressed workflows, including DNxHD, ProRes and QuickTime protocols, and can be configured to support uncompressed SD or HD workflows.
