(Amsterdam IBC, Netherlands--September 9, 2012) ToolsOnAir's "TV Station in a Mac Mini" has set a new standard for broadcast video professionals, delivering real-world power and performance in a small and cost-effective setup. Together with a multi-I/O interface, ToolsOnAir's Broadcast Suite turns an off-the-shelf Mac Mini into a professional, full-featured multi-camera broadcast video facility, with multicamera ingest, 24/7 automated playout, and real-time live graphics integration.

Sonnet Technologies recently introduced xMac mini Server, is a Thunderbolt to PCIe 2.0 expansion system in a 1RU rackmount enclosure that holds a Mac Mini, and two PCIe cards, creating an enterprise-class rack mount server. The streamlined system is receiving plenty of attention from Mac-based production and broadcast facilities.

The xMac mini Server houses a single Mac Mini, along with two powered PCIe 2.0 expansion slots that connect via Thunderbolt port, enabling a Mac Mini to utilize standard PCI video cards, like a Black Magic Designs Decklink Quad, or an AJA Kona 3G. A second PCIe card slot allows for connection to a RAID array, network, or other options.

With more than 350 broadcast facilities in 47 countries running ToolsOnAir's Broadcast Suite on Mac-based systems, ToolsOnAir's VP of Marketing Gilbert Leb says the xMac mini Server is ideally suited for today's modern broadcast production facility.

"The Mac Mini or Mac Mini Server has become the computer of choice for a wide range of professional video production companies," says Leb. "With a Thunderbolt-connected multi-IO interface, a Mac Mini-based system uses only 85 Watts of power consumption and is economical to build and run. With the xMac mini Server, it's easy to create a compact, streamlined, cost-effective system that can fit into a single rack space."

ToolsOnAir will be showcasing the xMac mini Server at Booth 7.G39 at this year's IBC Show in Amsterdam.
