Interesting - as of Max 2013, there is an After Effects Interoperability capability that is quite amazing:

It looks as if Maxon is coming to the party a bit late. Although, as I understand it (I'm a Max 2011 user), C4D has always played well with AE, and within the broadcast market, where C4D has a strong foothold, it should be very well received.
