(Burbank, California--May 20, 2013) MATTHEWS MAX MENACE ARM, designed by key grip Richard Mall and manufactured by MSE, winner of this year’s Academy SciTech Award takes center stage on New York Street during this year’s Cinegear Expo. Accompanying MAX are five new Matthews support products; LazySuzy (which win a coveted Black Diamond Award at NAB 2013), the Makalu remote head system, the Matthews Slider, UnderslingLITE – a new addition to the Intel-A-JibLITE and wireless function for Floatcam’s DC/HD-DC Slider.
“Cinegear is always a fun show for Matthews,” says Robert Kulesh, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at MSE. “Paramount Studios’ New York Street is a perfect venue for people to network and to test out new products that are sure to help them be as creative as they can be. MAX
, for example, has been busy working hundreds of productions around the world – but we’ve managed to bring one to the show so that attendees can get up close and personal with this unique support, that has literally revolutionized how lighting and camera placement can be done safely on any set or location.”
In addition to MAX, MSE will show LazySuzy
(winner of the Black Diamond Award at NAB 2013), an articulated double-swivel camera platform that allows for quick and secure ways to change camera positioning. With LazySuzy
, the cinematographer/videographer can place the camera anywhere within a 25” diameter circle, without having to reposition the dolly, tripod, or car mount rig.
MSE has a reputation for keeping up with the latest demands of the industry. That’s why, this year, they introduced a new member of the Inte-A-Jib family of support, the Intel-A-JibLITE. MSE now adds a very simplistic under sling for Intel-A-JibLITE
to allow the operator to work freely under the jib arm from absolute ground level up to as high as one can reach without any obstruction form the arm itself and the new Intel-A-Jib extension that will add 3.5 feet to the full extension resulting in a 13.5 foot maximum operating radius.
One of MSE’s most anticipated new products is the Makalu System
, a unique remote head package designed for live action, time lapse, visual effects, cinematography and videography. What makes this remote head different is the user interface, which is a multi-platform axis jog box with a professional joystick connected via WiFi to an iPad Mini, iPad 2&3 or iPhone. The system gives the user the ability to connect to a Mac running the accompanying eSpinO software, allowing for endless programing and tweaking of motion control camera moves.
Simple is often better, and Matthews Slider, designed for gaffer/camera operator Alex Amyot, is certainly that. It is lighter, sturdier, maintenance free, and easily field adjustable. According to Amyot, the idea came from the need for a really quiet product that does not impact location sound and is also unobtrusive to actors.
For the past few years FloatCam’s DC and HD-DC Sliders have been leaving MSE’s warehouse as fast as they come in. User’s, however, have found that a wireless motion control option would extend their creative possibilities. So, this year, MSE introduces just that – the wireless FloatCam Motion Control
with cable option allows for the same linear motion control functions for time lapse, stop motion and visual effects. Same menu but can control FLoatCam’s many functions wirelessly up to 500 feet (150 meters). It also offers a cable connection when a radio is not allowed or there are distortions in the work area.
“We, at Matthews, are always in constant communication with gaffers, key grips, cinematographers and videographers, so that we can support their needs,” says Kulesh. “While we may be featuring MAX and five new support products at Cinegear 2013, you can be sure that we’ll also have a full range of industry specialized hardware and lighting control devices for attendees to look over, test out, and hopefully be the new Technology that Complements Your Imagination.”
Cinegear 2013’s exhibit hours are Friday, May 31, 2013 from 2PM to 9PM and Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 10AM to 5PM. The location is The Studios at Paramount Hollywood, CA. Parking is available in the Paramount Parking structures (Gower, Van Ness and Lemon Grove)
