ASC Sets Dates for 28th Annual Awards

(Los Angeles, California--September 12, 2013) The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) will hold their annual Outstanding Achievement Awards on February 1, 2014, here at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland. Awards will be presented for best cinematography in feature and television categories, as well as awards for career and lifetime achievement.

“We established these annual awards in 1986 to recognize exceptional cinematography, and also to generate a broader appreciation of the art,” notes Lowell Peterson, ASC (Six Feet Under, Desperate Housewives), chairman of the ASC Awards Committee. “Each year our colleagues seem to take the craft to yet another level—creating unforgettable images for audiences around the world.”

Key dates in the timeline for this year’s ASC awards season include:

September 3 through November 1, 2013 – TV entry submissions period. Directors of photography can enter in three categories: (1) An episode of a regular half-hour series (2) An episode of a regular hour-long series, and (3) A movie or miniseries made for television. To qualify, shows must have premiere broadcast dates in the United States between December 1, 2012, and October 31, 2013. Entry forms are available from the ASC website.

September 2013 (exact date TBD) – Announcement of recipients of ASC’s annual Lifetime Achievement, Career Achievement in Television, and International Awards.

November 1, 2013 – Deadline for TV entries

November 19, 2013 – TV nominees announced

December 2013 – Board of Governors Award recipient announced

January 3, 2014 – Theatrical nominations polls close

January 8, 2014 – Theatrical nominees announced

January 25, 2014 – Open House at ASC Clubhouse

January 27, 2014 – Theatrical polls close (final)

February 1, 2014 – 28th Annual ASC Awards Gala (winners announced)

ASC was founded in 1919. There are 350 active members today who have national roots in some 20 countries. There are also 150 associate members from ancillary segments of the industry.
