(Burbank, California--October 5, 2013) The Editors’ Lounge returned in September giving an up close look at the new DaVinci Resolve 10 color correction system. The educational event that’s hosted monthly at AlphaDogs Post Production in Burbank, CA gave filmmakers, editors, producers, and post-production techies a chance to see first hand exactly how the latest features can make post-production workflows easier and faster.
Colorist David Block demonstrated highlights of the upgrades to Resolve’s finishing toolset and advanced color grading workflows. Among its new features, Resolve includes new color correction features, such as support for industry standard OpenFX plugins with an unlimited number of plugins per clip, unlimited power windows per corrector node, copy and paste of tracking data, motion effects including spatial and temporal noise reduction and motion blur effects. The new Gradient PowerWindow™ also lets colorists quickly add a gradient across the image. New online editing features include full multi track editing with 16 channels of audio per clip with unlimited video and audio tracks in the timeline. Other new editing features also include extensive ripple, roll, slide and slip clip trimming support which display dynamically on both the timeline and viewer as well as a powerful title tool with static, lower third, scroll and crawl titles with multiple fonts, size, drop shadow and XY positioning.
Online Editor Scott Freeman gave attendees a behind the scenes look at the strategic use of metadata that Freeman perfected while performing round trips between Avid Symphony and daVinci Resolve. “What used to take me 40 hours to conform in the Avid Symphony, now, using the combined forces of Resolve and Avid Symphony takes just 11 minutes,” said Freeman. It takes only three pieces of Avid metadata for Resolve to automatically create uncompressed 10bit 1080p 23.976 essence from the best known sources. Freeman also covered understanding the current pit-falls and conundrums to avoid. Freeman comments, “This is the only place that you will hear exactly what the Avid is doing behind the scenes.”
Intelligent Assistance showed their latest software tools for Final Cut Pro X: "Change List X
" which produces change lists for film post-production, and "Producer's Best Friend,
” which creates many types of reports from Final Cut Pro X Events and Projects.
Intelligent Assistance's CEO Philip Hodgetts also showed a preview of the company's upcoming Lumberjack, a real-time muscular on location logging tool for reality and documentary production with Final Cut Pro X.
