(Los Altos, California--November 5, 2013) Cloud gaming pioneer Playcast Media announced today that it has deployed its video game streaming service in the US using the computing power of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure platform. This news comes in line with the release of AWS’ new Amazon EC2 GPU instance type, G2, which possess 3D capabilities. Video games streamed by Playcast will be available via consumer-facing media brands in the near future.
Historically, gamers have consumed their games via consoles, PCs and mobile devices. AWS has recently updated its cloud technologies with greater power and performance. Those upgrades enable Playcast Media
to stream the world’s best video games to the US market easily, instantly and affordably.
Playcast has been operating its AAA game streaming service in Europe and Asia for three years. More than 650,000 gamers have experienced the ease of use and lightning fast streaming of hit games such as Batman Arkham City, Street Fighter Versus Tekken,
and Sonic Generations
directly on their TVs. Using existing connected devices and a generic game controller, all games are available for monthly subscriptions for game packages ranging between $7 and $13.
“Gamers are getting ready to spend billions on dedicated hardware and physical discs,” said Guy de Beer, Playcast Chief Executive Officer. “That’s several hundred dollars per gamer. Our service takes advantage of the AWS cloud, as well as existing networks and devices, to stream the best games to consumer households via our media partners at a fraction of that cost and those savings can be passed down to the consumer.”
The Playcast Media service is branded and marketed internationally by local media brands such as Bouygues in France, and CJ in Korea, and is expected to be available for North American consumers by US media brands by the second quarter of 2014.
