(Hong Kong--December 10, 2013) Qube Cinema has been licensed to support Dolby® Atmos™ playback in its servers. The Qube XP-D and XP-I digital cinema servers are the first in the Qube server line to be evaluated to support Dolby Atmos playback with software updates expected to be available in early 2014. Dolby Atmos unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling by giving filmmakers the ability to precisely place or move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, even overhead, to create the most engaging cinematic experience ever.
“Exhibitors are always on the lookout for ways to enhance the audience experience,” said Raja Enok, Chief Marketing Officer, Qube Cinema. “Integrating this value add technology into Qube servers allows theater owners to take advantage of the superior sound offered by Dolby Atmos.”
Dolby Atmos has rapidly become the preferred sound format of award-winning filmmakers, major studios and exhibitors the world over. The addition of Dolby Atmos functionality to the Qube servers will improve the movie-going experience for audiences by enabling an accurate reproduction of the filmmakers’ original intent for the audio experience. With just a server software update exhibitors will be able to play back the new audio format and provide movie-goers with a superior sound experience.
“Integrating Dolby Atmos with Qube Cinema servers makes it easier for exhibitors to take advantage of the future of superior sound,” said Doug Darrow, Senior VP, Cinema, Dolby Laboratories. “Using overhead speakers, as well as surrounds, Dolby Atmos creates realistic and natural sound experiences that envelop and involve audiences in the stories on the screen.”

About Dolby Atmos
Dolby Laboratories is equipping the cinema world with its new Dolby Atmos technology, the only object-based cinema sound platform available today. Dolby Atmos unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling by providing sound experts the creative freedom to easily place or move specific sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, not just where there happen to be speakers. The result is what moviegoers have described as the most engaging and lifelike cinema sound experience ever.
Introduced in April 2012, Dolby Atmos has been embraced by all the major Hollywood studios, six Academy Award® winning directors, and 11 Academy Award winning sound mixers, among others. More than 400 Dolby Atmos screens have been installed or committed to in 33 countries with more than 100 exhibitor partners. More than 85 films from 10 different countries-representing a broad range of genres from action thrillers and animated features to comedy and horror-have been or are scheduled to be released with Dolby Atmos sound since the first film debuted in June 2012.
Dolby Atmos has received technical achievement awards from both the Hollywood Post Alliance and the Cinema Audio Society. As the inventors of the only object-based audio format used in the cinema today, Dolby is working closely with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers in driving adoption of standards for object-based audio.
