(Santa Monica, CA--March 19, 2014) This week from March 16-26th SeaVees, a lifestyle footwear company, is auctioning off a custom-made surfboard on eBay with all proceeds going to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara. The new Content Division of Stardust has partnered with SeaVees on a tribute film about surfboard shaper, the legendary Renny Yater, in order to raise funds and awareness about Colon Cancer.

According to Stardust Creative Director/Director Seth Epstein, this project represented a great storytelling opportunity for the company’s new Content Division. “Through the Content Division, we are able to take a more lean filmmaking approach,” says Epstein, who co-owns Stardust with Managing Director Dexton Deboree. “Stardust is a world-class design and production company, which normally works on international and national commercial campaigns. These types of stories from SeaVees are great exercises for our creative team to explore and play around with; and for our younger filmmakers to flex their muscles.”

For Epstein, surfing has always been a big part of his life. He notes: “It was great to learn about Renny, who has structured his entire life around the pursuit of surfing. On a personal level, I’m very interested in how people choose to live. Figuring out what they think is important.” In order to achieve the lean production process, Epstein shot the SeaVees film on DSLR’s (Panasonic GH3).

Throughout 2014, SeaVees is teaming up with select legends (and legends-in-the-making) to create limited edition items that embody the spirit of SeaVees and the authentic era of 1960s California. Sold exclusively on, all proceeds go to the charity of the collaborator’s choice.

To kick off The Legend Series celebration, SeaVees partnered with renowned surfboard shaper, Reynolds “Renny” Yater. In the summer of 1964, the same year SeaVees was originally founded, Yater honed his talent to carve out the original Yater Spoon. The Spoon was the thinnest, lightest and most maneuverable longboard of its time. The shape remains the board of choice among many longboarders today, solidifying Yater’s status as a surf icon.

To honor the dual 50th anniversaries and Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Yater shaped a custom Spoon for SeaVees that will be available on auction from March 16th to 26th. All proceeds from the auction, as well as 10% from all sales of the 08/63 Hermosa Plimsoll Standards, will be donated to Colon Cancer research at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, but as many as 80% of these deaths could be prevented through regular screening in those age 50 or older. To help raise awareness about colon cancer and screening for the disease, the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara with Sansum Clinic has worked since 2000 to raise widespread awareness of colon cancer prevention and the importance of early detection.
