(Montreal, Canada--September 9, 2014) As broadcasters strive to provide viewers with the highest-quality images across multiple formats, Grass Valley’s expertise in emerging technologies such as 4K/UHD can help customers move to this new format with scalable solutions that meet their budgets today and tomorrow. Attendees at IBC 2014 seeking an efficient, practical approach for expanding their production capabilities to encompass 4K/UHD technology will find a full suite of future-ready solutions from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, in Hall 1, Stand D11.

“With the proliferation of formats, broadcasters are concerned about the cost of adding new equipment to deliver programming in 4K/UHD,” said Mike Cronk, senior vice president of strategic marketing, Grass Valley. “We offer a cost-effective solution through a full line of products that support production formats today and can be configured to meet the 4K/UHD transition of tomorrow. In addition to seeing 4K/UHD solutions that will be featured in our stand at IBC, attendees can get a first-hand look at our technology in action through our support of a major 4K/UHD live sports broadcast.”

Grass Valley will showcase a wide range of 4K/UHD solutions at IBC 2014, starting with the groundbreaking LDX 4K/UHD system camera, based on standard 2/3″ lenses and a new high-bandwidth digital fiber transmission solution to capture live events without the compromises associated with digital cinema optics. The LDX 4K/UHD system camera is the first 4K/UHD camera on the market that is developed specifically for sports and large-event live productions. In addition to the new camera, many existing Grass Valley products are ready to support 4K/UHD workflows today such as switching, routing, editing, replay, multiviewer and monitoring technologies.

“We’re especially excited about introducing our 4K/UHD camera to the European market at IBC,” said Cronk. “As the industry’s first 4K/UHD system camera solution on the market with native B4 lens, this is the product that will crack open the market for 4K/UHD sports production with better zoom, sensitivity and depth of field.”

Grass Valley’s 4K/UHD-ready solutions at IBC 2014 will include:
  • K2 Dyno Replay System with 4K/UHD pan/zoom directly controlled from K2 Dyno touchscreen application

  • Kayenne and Karrera Video Production Center switchers with K-Frame that are 3G ready with full 1080p 50/60 support scalable to 4K/UHD

  • NVISION 8500 Series routers that deliver frame-accurate 4K/UHD routing and are central to preparing for the additional bandwidth required by 4K/UHD production

  • EDIUS 7.4 multiformat nonlinear editing software, which can handle both 4K/UHD and 8K content

  • Kaleido-Modular-X, a flexible and scalable multiviewer that is natively capable of handling 4K/UHD quad-link sources and seamlessly recombining them into a pixel-perfect image

“Whether customers are in the early stages of developing their plans for 4K/UHD or have started on the journey, our team of 4K/UHD experts can help map out the most effective and economical path to fit each customer’s needs,” said Cronk.
