Brewster Parsons Helps King's Hawaiian Catch A Thief; New Spot Airs During People's Choice & Golden Globe Awards

(Venice, California--January 15, 2015) Brewster Parsons, the award-winning visual effects, CG & design studio, recently partnered with Levit & Associates for a new King’s Hawaiian commercial which debuted during the People’s Choice and Golden Globe Awards.



Inspired by the notion that no one can resist the temptation of King’s Hawaiian sweet bread, the 30-second spot gives us a window into the every-day life of a mom trying to plan a party during a typically busy week. If only she could catch the elusive thief hiding in plain sight.

Brewster Parsons oversaw the FX beauty work and finishing for broadcast and Social Media and teamed up with Exile Editor Paul Kumpata for editorial.

“Babies, dogs, rigs,” comments Steve Levit of Levit & Associates. “What could go wrong? Normally that would be a recipe for trouble. But with a great group like this one, it was a recipe for a great spot for our new shop.”



BP’s focus was really on the pay-off at the end of the commercial. Brewster Parsons’ Executive Producer Jason Cohon notes, “Would the baby’s performance be believable enough that moms everywhere would be shaking their heads wondering if we really suspended an infant eight feet in the air attached to a dog? Yes! It didn’t hurt either that the baby’s performance was Shakespearian with that smile at the end.”



For Louis Mackall, VFX Supervisor at Brewster Parsons, working with Steve Levit and Director Mike Bigelow was “highly collaborative which made things easy on-set,” he says, noting that there are a number of small details that popped up in the post-production phase. “Mike, Steve and DP John Houtman were very inclusive and open to suggestions, which made our job easier and lead to better imagery.”

Mackall explains that the baby was shot with a small rig on green-screen with the King’s Hawaiian Roll as his incentive/motivation. “We shot the spot with twins,” he concludes. “Once you hit naptime, you never know what can happen. But both little guys were great sports and loved their sweet bread rolls.”
