Image Matters B20 Module Integrates OmniTek SDI FPGA Core


Delivers 12G-SDI Interoperability

(Liège, Belgium--November 14, 2016) As UHD and 4K become more prevalent, broadcast equipment manufacturers must be able to seamlessly inter-connect SDI formats and convert between quad-link 3G, dual-link 6G and single-link 12G-SDI. SDI FPGA core from OmniTek provides real-time fast connectivity solutions for Image Matters B20 Module. Simply integrating the IP core into the B20 Module will give instant SDI connectivity for 3G, 6G and 12G-SDI in any video format.

Demonstrating their SDI IP integration at InterBEE 2016, OmniTek will be utilizing Image Matters ORIGAMI Ecosystem to show the power of their IP, and the ability to future proof designs by taking advantage of ORIGAMI’s licensing model.

Image Matters B20 Module is based on the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale 060 FPGA, providing high resolution video processing, and consuming less than 20W in a business card sized hardware solution.

The B20 Module is the first of Image Matters’ modules. It targets challenging projects needing immediate access to high-end video technologies. The B20 Module is made for applications requiring high resolution video, where space and low power consumption are major considerations.

Vendors can buy off the shelf B20 Modules at the price of low volume Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA’s, and build their own carrier board, including interface hardware, to accelerate deployment and greatly reduce investment and risks associated with hardware design.

Combining FPGA IP cores from market leaders such as OmniTek, vendors can design products quickly and deliver solutions to satisfy their clients’ needs.

Consisting of an Rx and Tx subsystem, the OmniTek SDI FPGA Core converter uses SMPTE’s two-sample-interleave (2SI), and with the addition of the square division approach, will provide video encoding for 4K UHD over quad 3G-SDI and single link 12G-SDI.

Configuration of the OmniTek SDI FPGA Core is further simplified using on-chip processors such as ARM or MicroBlaze, allowing software selection of individual links to make up the SDI video signal. Re-ordering of input video and ancillary data to satisfy output format requirements is all taken care of inside the IP core.

During the B20 Module development phase, OmniTek used Xilinx tool chains and development boards to design their IP cores. Within the Xilinx environment, OmniTek developers could test-bench and prove their IP, and when the B20 Module became available and the IP core had been verified, the design was quickly and easily ported to the B20 Module.

Combining the power of Xilinx development systems with the B20 Module, demonstrates how members of the ORIGAMI Ecosystem can reliably deploy a complete hardware solution in a cost-effective manner.
