(Irvine, California--November 30, 2016) Schiefer ChopShop puts much more than glory on the line in their latest documentary for Blizzard Entertainment, A New Hero: The Rise of College Esports. Directed by Zach Lyons, A New Hero is a thrilling dive into the competitive college gaming competition Heroes of the Dorm, where the push to win stems not from a desire for fame, but for full college tuition. Through Lyons’ lens, the documentary is a fast-paced and suspenseful look at the competition; it also shows how the realm of what we consider ‘sports’ is expanding as e-sports grow in popularity.

Heroes of the Dorm debuted as the biggest collegiate tournament on national television in 2015; Schiefer ChopShop was approached by Blizzard Entertainment to tell the story of the players, who experience similar challenges and competition as many traditional athletes. Lyons interviewed the players, their loved ones, and also tapped top sports industry professionals, including Mark Cuban, Rick Fox, and Hunter Pence to mirror the competitive nature of this tournament, and convey just how much time, knowledge, and commitment it takes to be a winner.

Lyons takes the audience through a brief history of gaming industry, from early video games to the present day technological innovations that make up a billion-dollar industry. He conveys this competition with a building intensity and an emotional ending that shows the power of human connection.

Lyons composed a masterful piece of content, telling a character-driven story that highlights the determination of the gamers and conveys the importance of the brand to their followers.
