Educates Consumers of the Dangers of Counterfeit Power Accessories

(January 19, 2017) Canon U.S.A. is excited to announce the latest effort in collaboration with the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) on a campaign to bring attention to the risks associated with purchasing counterfeit power accessories, such as batteries, chargers, and external flashes.



Today, two Public Service Announcement (PSA) videos featuring the well-known NCPC icon McGruff the Crime Dog® were distributed to over 1,500 outlets including television & cable networks and top local television stations across the country. Canon sponsored the development and production of the videos along with NCPC in support of continuing efforts to educate consumers about the dangers of counterfeits. The video titled “Side by Side” is focused on the safety risks with using counterfeits which may overheat, smoke, melt, and ignite causing personal injury or property damage. The video titled “Birthday” highlights the performance issues that can arise when using a counterfeit.

The Canon and NCPC co-branded version of these videos can be viewed at ncpc.org/stopfakes. The infographic above is designed to further demonstrate the commitment of both Canon and the NCPC to raise awareness of the dangers of counterfeits.
