Asian World Film Festival To Honor Actress Freida Pinto, October 24th

(Culver City, CA--October 23, 2018) The 4th Annual ASIAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL (AWFF) will kick off with an awards presentation honoring actress Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) with the AWFF American Red Cross/Tiffany Circle Courage to Dream Award. The Awards ceremony will be followed by a screening of Love Sonia, India’s submission into the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, followed by a Q&A and reception at the Culver Hotel.

WHO:
Love Sonia director Tabrez Noorani joins actors Freida Pinto and Mrunal Thakur and producer David Womark. In addition, Ted Caplan and Alkesh Vaja (writers), Martin Singer (Editor), Niels Bye Nielsen (Music) and Nadim George (Co-Producer).

CLOSING NIGHT (November 1):
Actresses Lisa Lu and Awkwafina will be honored with the Snow Leopard Awards at the festival's closing night ceremony, November 1 at the ArcLight Cinema in Downtown Culver City (9500 Culver Blvd.) AWFF is once again partnering with The Snow Leopard Trust to raise awareness for the endangered snow leopard and its ecosystem in the high mountains of Asia. In addition, Turkish superstar Türkan Soray will be accepting a special tribute award honoring Chingiz Aitmatov as the AWFF spotlights the 90th anniversary of the Soviet/Kyrgyz author and statesman. Aitmatov is known for such films as Pervyy uchitel (1965), The Girl with the Red Scarf (1977) and Jamila (1994). His literary works have been translated into more than 150 languages. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Aitmatov’s novels found a new audience in the West and gained popularity in Germany.
